Love Grows

When I was younger, I thought about love from a scarcity mindset. I was afraid if I shared too much of it, I wouldn’t have any left.

As I aged, I realized that love grows. The more you love, the more there is to go around.

Since 2024, my family has grown by one member and my heart couldn’t be fuller.

Whether you’re in a place of abundance or scarcity today, I hope that your love grows, too. Even a small sprout can flourish with the right intention and care.

Sincerely, Shannon

Do Lawyers Give?

My latest obsession is a book called “Braiding Sweetgrass” (not a hot take, I know) by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Broadly speaking, the book is about indigenous American wisdom interwoven with the science of plants. One of my main takeaways so far is that reciprocity is the foundation of a healthy community for plants and humans. To put it simply, giving and reciprocating in kind is a more productive transaction than paying for goods and services. For example, a maple tree gives its sap to humans and, in return, we nurture its environment and stop ourselves from taking too much (ideally).

There is honor in taking – not guilt – because the recipient gives back to the environment in their own way.

As I processed this idea, a seed of guilt grew inside me. I felt badly about my role in this capitalist society. After all, I have a private business that offers services for money. But the more I thought about this concept of reciprocity; I realized that our legal services are more than just work product or hours billed (lol we don’t bill hours).

At Bluebird Law, you may pay for a legal service, but what you get in return is hope, dedication, passion and energy. Those things can’t be bought and sold – they can only be given.

And, in return, you nurture yourselves and your families. You heal from trauma, you share your joy, and you go on to be your best selves every day.

Resource of the Month: Appclose

Most of us know about Talking Parents (Courts‘ favorite co-parenting app), but so many of these apps are expensive and I hesitate to recommend them.

While Talking Parents offers a free version, free users can only access it from their browsers -- not the app. Not exactly convenient for a communication tool.

If you’re looking for a free co-parenting tool, check out AppClose:
