Updates to Protection Order Statutes
The statutes regarding protection orders are changing January 1, 2025.
Among other changes to the definitions and language around domestic violence, the statute changes the standard to obtain a temporary protection order from “imminent harm” to “a risk or a threat of physical harm or the threat of psychological or emotional harm”. This change overall will likely lessen the barrier to access for survivors and give them more of an opportunity to be heard.
Kudos to the committed professionals at Project Safeguard and many other Violence Free Colorado affiliates for their advocacy on this bill.
